Mobile App Dev Diary:Part One

Working on my first mobile app, its a time line app which is aimed at parents with children with Autism. The idea behind the app is that parents can create a 'timeline' of what the child will be doing throughout the day, or next couple of hours.

There are other iPhone apps like this already, The Grace App, iPrompts and AACSpeechBuddy to name but a few. These are all great app, we use the Grace app for iPad, but the problem with them is that there aren't many for the Android platform. With my version I'm aiming to create a cross-platform version for both iOS and Android. To do this I'm using Adobe AIR, so the one code base will work for both platforms.

The basic functionality for this app is to allow users to create these timelines using photos taken from their device and add captions to the image to create a symbol. A timeline is made up of these 'symbols' and can be shown to the child.

As well as being able to create these symbols and timelines, this app will allow uses to save the timelines they have created so they can be easily used over and over again.

In the next part of this series I'll list some of the tools I'm using in the build of this app.
